Burlington, of which the nickname is “Queen City of Vermont”, is the largest city in the state of Vermont, USA. It is also the county seat of Chittenden County. Among the population (around 39,000 residents), the large majority is Caucasian (about 92%).

Various industries make up the economy of Burlington. Among them, there are education and health services; finance; manufacturing (the electronics industries have been the most important); tourism (which is the area’s second largest industry); trade, transportation and utilities (around 22,000 workers in the Burlington and South Burlington metropolitan area); etc. There are some corporate headquarters in the city like Lake Champlain Chocolates.

The largest employer is IBM Corporation with around 6,000 employees, followed by Fletcher Allen Health Care with about 4,000 workers. With approximately 107,000 workers, Burlington’s workforce accounts for almost a third of the state’s workers. The economic activities in the manufacturing and service sector create a significant demand for translation services in Burlington, Vermont.

In order to encourage business development, the government has some incentive programs (local, state and job training programs). The Vermont City Marathon and Golden Gloves boxing tournament are among the annual sports events in the city. The city has a team in baseball called Vermont Lake Monsters, and the Vermont Frost Heaves in basketball. Burlington has supported many local bands. For example, the band Phish, created at the University of Vermont in 1983, was launched in this city.

With regard to the transportation network, Burlington provides bus service through the Chittenden County Transportation Authority. Car and passenger ferry service is provided by the Lake Champlain Transportation Company. As for air service, there is the Burlington International Airport.
