Translation Services and Universities of Edmonton

With more than 780,000 residents, Edmonton, the capital of the Province of Alberta, Canada, is the second biggest city in Alberta, as well as the second most populous provincial capital in Canada, Toronto being the first one. Among the population, there are a great number of students in the city, which is one of the most important educational centres in Canada.

The University of Alberta (or “U of A”) is one of the major academic institutions based in Edmonton. Established in 1908, this public research university is considered to be one of the top universities in Canada, and is also among the best research universities in the world. Its research library system is among the largest ones in the country. The University has 18 faculties in different areas such as Agriculture, Life & Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Graduate Studies and Research, Medicine & Dentistry, Nursing, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Science. The Saint-Jean Campus is another faculty of the U of A that has the characteristic of offering programs in both English and French. The student population of the University is about 37,000, with a large number of foreign students originating from more than 130 countries. Edmonton is home to several other comprehensive educational institutions. For example, there is Athabasca University, a public university situated in Athabasca, Alberta, founded in 1970. It has satellite centers in different cities including Edmonton, and welcomes more than 37,000 students from over 80 countries worldwide. It offers various programs in commerce, health administration, professional arts, etc. There is also the Concordia University College of Alberta, a private university established in 1921 with less than 2,000 students who can study arts, environmental health, information systems security management, science, among other things. The public University of Lethbridge (or “U of L”) also has a campus based in Edmonton where students can study management.

The city has many colleges which include the Grant MacEwan College (it offers programs in business, and arts and science, etc. to its more than 40,000 students in 5 different campuses); NorQuest College (a student population of more than 10,000 studying various fields like business, health, and human services); The King's University College (a private liberal arts college with over 600 students), and Taylor University College and Seminary (another private college providing diverse programs in the areas of religion, theology, etc.).

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (or “NAIT”) is also situated in the city of Edmonton. It offers applied education and technical training to a student body of more than 84,000 through over 250 programs in business, health care, IT, among other things.
